Von den Berliner*innen wird er umgangssprachlich auch Opernplatz genannt, der 19.000 Quadratmeter große Bebelplatz in der Berliner Mitte. Eingerahmt von Gebäuden wie der St. Hedwig-Kathedrale, der Juristischen Fakultät, dem Hotel de Rome und der Staatsoper Unter den Linden, die alle Teil einer einzigartigen 180 Grad Lichtkunst-Inszenierung zum Festivalmotto VISION OF OUR FUTURE waren.

Ein legendärer und magischer Moment: Zum ersten Mal nahmen die Botschaft der Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate und die Botschaft des Staates Israel am FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS gemeinsam teil. Mit der 3D-Videoshow an der Fassade des Hotel de Rome setzten sie ein Zeichen des Friedens und der Völkerverständigung. Die Show tauchte zunächst in die jeweilige Welt des Partnerlandes ein, zeigte Architektur, Natur, Kunst und die gelebte Moderne. Schließlich betonte es den gemeinsamen Weg in die Zukunft, zelebrierte die neu geschaffene diplomatische Verbindung durch das 2020 geschlossene Friedensabkommen und stellte so einen der wichtigsten Werte in den Vordergrund: Frieden.

Tenor der Show auf dem Hotel de Rome war die Geschichte einer beschädigten Welt, die sich selbst heilt. Die circa dreiminütige Videoshow wurde präsentiert vom Hauptsponsor des Festival of Lights – The Climate Pledge. Sie endete mit dem Aufruf der Initiative an die Unternehmen auf der ganzen Welt: #ChallengeAccepted. Das bedeutet, die eigene Verantwortung zu erkennen und sich dem Ziel anzuschließen, bis 2040 CO2-neutral zu arbeiten.

In einem weiteren Mapping auf dem Hotel de Rome thematisierten die Künstler Ross Ashton & Karen Monid anlässlich des „Future Vision Award“ den sogenannten „Schmetterlingseffekt“. Dieser besagt, dass auch kleine Handlungen sehr große Auswirkungen haben können.

Auch im Festival of Lights 2018 erwartete die Berliner und Berlinerinnen sowie ihre Gäste ein besonderes Videoerlebnis. Das Motto für das Mapping auf dem Hotel de Rome war in diesem Jahr „The Freedom of Art – Between Dream and Reality“. Ihre Visionen dazu lieferten zwei renommierte Videokünstler, der Engländer Ross Ashton, dessen kunstvolle Licht- und Toninstallationen bereits rund um die Welt zu sehen waren, und die polnische Künstlerin Pani Pawlosky.

Unter dem Motto „Opera e Luce“ erstrahlte der gesamte Bebelplatz: So wurde die Projektion des Hotel de Rome auf das Bankhaus Löbbecke ausgeweitet, um mit einem schillernden Panorama zu beeindrucken. Wir haben uns sehr gefreut, auch die St.- Hedwigs Kathedrale erstmalig mit einer farbenprächtigen Projektion begrüßen zu dürfen.

Bebelplatz
